Former Legislator Steve Wolens Appointed to Texas Ethics CommissionThursday, September 29, 2016
Texas Speaker of the House Joe Straus appointed former Dallas legislator Steve Wolens to the Texas Ethics Commission. Wolens, an attorney, served in the House from 1981 to 2005. In 1991, Wolens served on the conference committee for SB 1, the legislation that created the Texas Ethics Commission.
The Speaker appoints two of the Commission’s eight members. According to the Texas Constitution, the Speaker’s appointees come from two different political parties, with one being recommended by Republican House members and the other recommended by Democratic House members. Wolens fills the Democratic slot vacated by Paul Hobby of Houston.
